Tug rescued 15 migrants off Alicante
On Feb 8, 2025, the 'Protug 75' informed the MRCC of Salvamento Marítimo in Valencia that it had rescued 15 migrants. The 'Salvamar Leo' and the patrol boat 'Rio Ladra' of the Guardia Civil' were mobilized to the scene. The ships rendezvoused 20 kilometers from the coast where the 15 people were transferred onto the SAR boat in apparent good condition. They were taken to Alicante where they disembarked. Orca did not meet safety regulations
The "Orca VI" was detained in Puerto Rico. The ship may not leave until it conforms to safety codes. Last week it towed a boat of the U.S. Coast Guard boat from Panama to Puerto Rico. Upon entering U.S. waters it was found that the boat did not comply to certain safety regulations. For example, the smoke detectors did not work correctly and the log books were not in order. Because the boat thus did not meet the International Safety Management Code it was detained on July 23, 2011.
