River cruise ship shifting to Donaustauf as asylum ship
The 'Rossini' which has served as an ayslum shelter since the beginning of February, 2023, will shift from the Maier fishery in Frengkofen, a district of Bach on the Danube. to Donaustauf on Aug 2. Due to increasing numbers of refugees, the ship will continue to be used as living space. Before the ship arrived, many citizens of Bach were unsure whether the community could deal with 200 refugees, what the place had to offer and whether there would be conflicts. After six months it is clear that things have remained calm. But as the nearby initial reception facility in Regensburg is 90 % full, the ship will be used relieve the initial reception facility. Every week a bus comes with 25 refugees who then have to be distributed in the district.
Fire in galley
In the evening of Feb 25, 2018, a fire broke out in the galley of the "Rossini" on the Danube. As the crew was unable to extinguish it with water and towels, it spread and had to be tackled by the alerted fire brigade Linz. The fryer of the river cruise ship which was currently at its winter berth in Linz was alight at 6.10 p.m. Smoke quickly spread onto several decks. All 23 crew members were brought to safety, seven of them were transferred to University Hospital as a precaution by the rescue service. The interior was then ventilated by the fire department. At 7.30 p.m. the ship was released. The exact amount of damage was not known on Feb 26. On Aug 7, 2010, the river cruise ships „Scenic Ruby“ (ENI-No.: 07001907) and „Rossini“ were in collision on the Danube near Passau-Lindau. At 4.20 p.m. the “Scenic Ruby” running downstream had drifted perpendicular to the river due to a navigational mistake, and the approaching “Rossini” was unable to stop in time. The “Scenic Ruby” was damaged on a length of seven metres, and two cabins were smashed. No injuries reported. The damage was around 50000 Euro.
