Chemical tanker SAMPATIKI attacked by pirates, 5 crew members taken as hostages
Chemical tanker SAMPATIKI was attacked by 8 pirates early in the morning Mar 26, reported Slash24/7 and Trade Winds. Pirates held tanker under control for four hors, no doubt ransacking vessel and crew, and took five hostages with them. The rest of the crew unhurt, vessel resumed sailing and reached Lagos outer anchorage on Mar 27. Tanker was attacked in vicinity 04 20N 005 10E, some 30 nm off Bayelsa coast, while en route from Port Harcourt to Lube, Nigeria.
Tanker brought to Tema after pirate attack
Three vessels allegedly attacked by pirates and subsequently declared missing in the Gulf of Guinea have been found and brought to the Port of Tema. The vessels which were involved were the Liberian tanker "Fair Artemis", the Ghanaian registered fishing vessel "Mariner 771" and the "Sampatiki". Preliminary investigations conducted by the security agencies in Ghana and subsequently reported revealed that none of the three vessels was attacked in Ghanaian waters.
