Grounding after assistance

The 'Seaborne Cargo V' carrying 140 containers, ran aground 200 metres off the shoreline of Barangay Masaguitsit, Lobo, Batangas, on Sep 16, 2021, en route from Bohol bound for Manila when it was directed to Verde Island, Batangas to provide towing support. Upon arrival the vessel towed the 'Seaborne Cargo 6' to the anchorage off Lobo. While departing to proceed to its port of destination, the vessel ran aground in shallow water on sandy bottom off Barangay Masaguitsit. The Philippine Coastguard advised the captain and shipowner to regularly check their engines and ensure strict compliance with safety standards to avoid future maritime incidents. They have also been instructed to file a marine protest to the PCG Station Batangas and look for an accredited salvor to conduct salvage operations to the cargo vessels. An the oil spill assessment by PCG divers yielded a negative result.
