Ferry sidelined due to bow thruster trouble

Mon Oct 28 11:43:39 CET 2019 Timsen

The departure of the 'Silja Symphony' from Stockholm on Oct 27, 2019, has been canceled due to a technical problem. Already in the morning when the ferry arrived at the termminal, a technical error was discovered in the stabilizer. The ship was initially scheduled to leave bound to Helsinki again at 4:45 p.m. During the day, an attempt was made to fix the problem with poor success. It was investigated with the cooperation of technical experts, the ship's crew and divers. The delay was first extended to several hours and eventually the company announced that the ship could not leave at all. The ship had on board around 2100 passengers. They were allowed to stay on board the ship while in the port of Stockholm; The ship's restaurants, cafes and some shops were open. The 'Silja Symphony's departure from Helsinki on Oct 28 also had to be canceled. Tallink Silja's customer service will be in touch with affected passengers.

Tallink Grupp starts using shore power for Silja Symphony

Thu Jun 20 12:32:49 CEST 2019 arnekiel

Tallink Grupp has this week started using shore power to provide electricity for two of its vessels, Silja Serenade and Silja Symphony, while they are alongside in port to reduce the environmental impact of the vessels and to minimise air pollution in the Nordic capital cities the company’s vessels visit. Silja Symphony and Silja Serenade, sister ships operating on the Helsinki-Stockholm route, have been piloting use of the shore power connection facility since February this year and are the two first vessels to be connected to the new facility aiming to minimize the environmental impact from ships within the Baltic Sea region.
