Fire in cargo hold
Firefighters from the Cartagena City Council were alerted to a fire on the 'Sloman Dispatcher' in the port of Escombreras on Oct 18, 2025, at 12:50 p.m. The fire was caused by tarps covering the ship's cargo of engines, possibly due to cutting work being carried out with oxyacetylene. It was located in two adjacent areas, one separate from the other, in the ship's cargo hold. Officers from the Cartagena City Council's Fire and Rescue Service responded to the fire along with the Port Police and Civil Guard. Upon arrival, the ship's crew had deployed two hose lines, attempting to control the fire from the outside. Following the intervention of the Cartagena Fire Department, the fire was declared extinguished at 3:00 p.m., with no injuries reported. The ship, which had arrived en route from Las Palmas on Oct 17, left Cartagena again on Oct 21 en route to Termini Irese with an ETA as of Oct 22.
