Stern ramp trouble delayed ferry
The 'Stena Scandinavica' suffered a malfunction of its stern ramp upon its departure from Kiel to Gothenburg in the evening of Jan 13. The ship could not sail as scheduled at 7 p.m. A mobile crane was called to assist in the situation. Stena Line initially announced the ship would sail at 10 p.m. But it finally sailed only on Jan 14 at 1 p.m. and was still in the Kattegat enroute to Gothenburg in the foremidday, hours behind the schedule according to which it should have arrived at 9 a.m. She finally berthed in Gothenburg at 1 p.m. and left port with a slight delay at 7.45 p.m. back to Kiel.
Medevac in Great Belt
On June 2, 2018, at 11.50 p.m. the "Stena Scandinavica", while enroute from Kiel to Gothenburg, reported a sick person on board in the Great Belt. A helicopter of the Danish Navy was deployed to medevac the patient and transport him to a hospital for further treatment.
Storm and defective stabilisator kept ferry from docking in Kiel
Due to the stormy weather and a malfunctioning stabilisator the arrival of the "Stena Scandinavica" at the Schweden Quay in Kiel was delayed by several hours on March 16, 2018. Instead of docking at 9.15 a.m. the ship reached the terminal at 12.30 p.m. The ship had already arrived in Kiel but turned around and headed to a waiting position in the Mönkeberg bight due to heavy wind gusts from the East with a force of 10 Beaufort and trouble with the hydraulic of the stabilisator which could not be retracted after the crossing of the Baltic Sea from Gothenburg which made it unable to dock in Kiel. Due to the troubled sea it was also impossible to enter the port stern first, and no tugs were available to assist as all were busy in the Kiel Bight and the Kiel Canal. The police deployed the patrol boat "Falshöft" to assist. German report with photo: https://www.shz.de/19348251 ©2018
