Cylinder trouble in English Channel
On Dec 20, 2020, the 'CTG Mercury' made a controlled stoppage whilst proceeding westbound in the English Channel Traffic Separation Scheme to conduct an assessment of an alleged malfunction of its main engine at 6.45 p.m. In order to mitigate any navigational threat and for reasons of extra safety the vessel's command, before making the controlled stop, consulted with the HM Coast Guard and technical operator and then made the decision to slow down and stop at a safe agreed place. The engine crew and the technical superintendent investigated the occurrence and the crew replaced a spare part. After testing, the vessel resumed the voyage from Rotterdam to Dakar shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec 21 with an ETA as of Dec 27.
