Stolt Valor to be cut into three sections
The "Stolt Valor" entered ASRY’s No.1 drydock in Bahrain in mid-October 2012 and wast to be cut into three sections. Following the scrapping of the badly damaged mid-body section, the remaining stainless steel has been bought by a Belgian/Dutch company, while a local Bahraini company has bought the mild steel.

Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (Asry) chief executive Chris Potter told 'Gulf Daily News', "It was felt that the cost of repair would be much more than the cost of the vessel." He said the "Stolt Valor" could be broken apart in Bahrain and then taken away. "We could also have ship-breaking experts coming to Bahrain to examine the vessel and decide on breaking it up." The tanker, which suffered an explosion after a fire in March, had at one point threatened Bahrain's coastline. It arrived in Asry last month in convoy with the help of three large tugs. The cause of the original explosion is still unknown.
Stolt Valor berthed at ASRY Yard
The "Stolt Valor" on June 28 has arrived at Bahrain’s ASRY yard for repairs after it suffered a cargo tank fire and explosion off Farsi Island, Iran, while carrying 13,000 tonnes of MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether). The "Stolt Valor" was taken to port by the AHTS "Caribbean Fos", owned by Five Oceans Salvage; the "Pacific Typhoon", owned by Swire Pacific and the AHTS vessel "Lamnalco Mesite", owned by Smit Lamnalco of Cyprus. The cause of the explosion is still unknown. Neighbouring countries to Bahrain had declined to accept the ship. ASRY’s initial works will include a safety inspection prior to any further investigation to ensure the vessel has no outstanding safety concerns. She will then be transferred alongside for a detailed investigation to be carried out in conjunction with the owners to determine the best course of action going forward. Safety and security of ASRY personnel remains the yard’s highest priority, and ASRY says its usual high standards will be met while undertaking all exploratory investigations.
