Medevac off Esbjerg
The 'AIDAperla' had to change course on July 19 due to a medical emergency. At around 10:00 a.m., the ship turned away from its route between Hamburg and Haugesund. A few nautical miles northwest of Esbjerg, the cruise ship was approached by a Danish SAR helicopter, which hoisted the patient and transported the person to a hospital as quickly as possible. For the safe transfer of the patient, some guest areas on the 'AIDAperla' had to be temporarily closed. Access to decks 16 to 18 and the Beach Club was temporarily restricted. After the disembarkation was completed, the decks were reopened to guests, and the 'AIDAperla' continued its voyage to Norway with a slight delay. This was expected to be compensated for by a higher cruising speed and should therefore have no major consequences. The ship was on a week-long cruise to the Norwegian fjords, departing from and returning to Hamburg.
Entire Orient season cancelled
AIDA Cruises has cancelled the entire 2027/28 Orient season for the 'AIDAperla'. The reason for this was the situation in the Middle East. AIDA Cruises states: "Unfortunately, the situation in the Middle East remains unpredictable. For this reason, we have decided not to offer cruises in the Orient during the winter of 2027/28. This also affects the associated positioning voyages for the 'AIDAperla' around the Canary Islands and Africa in autumn 2027 and spring 2028. We deeply regret this, but responsible and reliable long-term planning for our guests and ourselves is our top priority." AIDA Cruises was working intensively on new winter itineraries for the 'AIDAperla', departing from Kiel to Northern Europe and the Canary Islands. These are expected to be available for booking starting in late July 2026. AIDA will proactively contact their customers to inform them of the available options so they could plan their trip with confidence.
Cruise ship had a suspected slight bottom touch
On April 5, the 'AIDAperla' had a suspected bottom touch in Åndalsnes after the ropes broke in strong wind gusts of the storm Dave during the preparations for the departure. The ship had berthed at the Tinde Quay on the morning. It has a maximum draft of 8.3 meters. The Tinde Quay has varying depths from 12 to 9.4 meters, before it quickly becomes shallower with a depth of 1.1 meters close to land. After the forespring broke, the ship immediately set off, assisted by the pilot, and headed towards the Romdalsfjord. The previous day, the cruise ship had to remain in the port of Ålesund longer than usual during its eleven-day "Norway's Fjords" voyage due to seven-meter-high waves. The ship was originally scheduled to depart on April 4 at 6 p.m. However, the crew decided to wait overnight in port for calmer seas. The 'Aidaperla' finally sailed on April 5 at around 5:40 a.m., after the wind decreased a bit, and set course for its next destination, Åndalsnes. Despite higher speed and the relatively short distance between the two destinations, the planned arrival time of 8:00 a.m. could not be met. With a delay of approximately three hours and 20 minutes, the cruise ship reached Åndalsnes at around 11:20 a.m. and docked on its starboard side. The travel time between the two destinations was therefore only 5 hours and 40 minutes.
