Aidaperla returns to Hamburg early due to atorm Joshua

Fri Oct 24 11:47:55 CEST 2025 Timsen

The 'AIDAperla' returned to Hamburg already on Oct 24 on her current Norway cruise from Oct 18 to 25, due to an approaching storm that was expected to lead to a closure of the Elbe River for ships of this size over the weekend. To ensure a scheduled end to the cruise during the guest changeover on Oct 25, the two scheduled ports of Ålesund and Haugesund had to be canceled on the current cruise, which began with a day at sea on the North Sea and regular stops in Stavanger on Oct 20 and Olden on Oct 21. Due to the weather forecast, it was decided not to continue the cruise further north to Ålesund. The city of Bergen served as a replacement for the originally planned destination further north on the Norwegian coast and was not actually included on this route. From Bergen, the 'AIDAperla' continued the cruise to Hamburg on the evening of Oct 22. The port of Haugesund, scheduled for Oct 22, therefore had to be canceled so that the ship can safely enter the port of Hamburg via the Elbe. During the night of Oct 23, the ship reached the Elbe estuary near Cuxhaven and then dock at the Cruise Center Steinwerder in Hamburg on the morning of Oct 24. Before the scheduled end of the cruise on Saturday, guests will have one more day for exploration and an overnight stay in the port of the Elbe metropolis. The current route change for the 'AIDAperla' is due to the weather and is therefore beyond the control of AIDA Cruises. The adjustments will also result in major changes to the shore excursion program. All booked AIDA excursions in the ports of Ålesund and Haugesund have been canceled and refunded by the shipping company. A small selection of shore excursions will be put together at short notice for the additional day in Hamburg.

Medevac of injured woman on the Elbe

Mon Jul 28 12:47:58 CEST 2025 Timsen

A medical emergency occurred on board the "AidaPerla", which had just departed from Hamburg to Nordfjordeid, on July 26, 2025, and triggered a rescue operation on the Elbe River near Stade. At around 6 p.m., several rescue teams were alerted, after a woman had sustained a leg injury on board the "Aida Perla" that could not be adequately treated with the on board resources, while the ship was underway on the Elbe. The Stade Fire Department, together with the German Rescue Service (DLRG), approached the moving cruise ship directly. In consultation with the crew of the DLRG boat "Kiek Ut," two emergency paramedics took over the patient from the ship's doctors. Using a special basket stretcher, the injured woman was transferred to the fireboat "Henry Köpcke". At the same time, the DLRG Stade transported the ambulance and emergency vehicle crews to the scene on the Elbe River near Lühesand. The ambulance crew took over the patient on board the "Henry Köpcke." Since the initially reported leg fracture was not confirmed, the emergency medical service was not required.

Search for missing crew member without success

Mon Oct 23 09:11:40 CEST 2023 Timsen

In the morning of Oct 21 a male crew member went missing while the "Aida Perla" was on its way from Hamburg to A Coruna. The crew apparently fell overboard in the English Channel. The British Coast launched an SAR operation at around 8:55 a.m. LT. A helicopter, a plane and several lifeboats were dispatched. Also the cruise shgip initiated all necessary rescue measures in close coordination with the relevant local authorities. The ship was immediately stopped and returned to the location where the incident was believed to have occurred to participate in the search. The water temperature in the English Channel was 17 degrees. The search was aborted without result.
