Medevac in Carribean waters
On April 9, 2023, a passenger was medevaced from the 'AIDAperla', which is currently on its positioning voyage from the Caribbean to Hamburg. The voyagehad started in Bridgetown on April 6. One day after leaving St. John's for the six-day transatlantic passage, the ship had to change course in the morning and steer back towards the Caribbean islands so that the ship got within range of a helicopter again. The patient was hoisted, and the 'AIDAperla' resumed the voyage to the next destination Santa Cruz on La Palma. It is not yet known whether the resulting loss of time can be made up for with a higher ship speed so that Santa Cruz is reached punctually on April 15, 2023 at 9 a.m.
Passengers left behind as cruise ship had to sail early for safety concerns
On Dec 18, 2022, most of the guests of the 'AIDAperla' could not go ashore in the port of Roseau on the Caribbean island of Dominica due to strong winds and high waves, which did not allow safe landing via the cruise ship's gangway. The landing was initially approved at around 8 a.m. LT, but was canceled half an hour later due to serious safety concerns. Some guests from AIDA excursions and around 100 individual guests were already ashore at this time. The captain then ensured that the shore excursions were returned to the ship as quickly as possible. The guests who were individually ashore were also contacted to come back to the ship. At 11:15 a.m. the 'AIDAperla' left Roseau prematurely and set course for the next port of Pointe-a-Pitre on the island of Guadeloupe. The local agency of AIDA Cruises waited for the guests who were not on board until the departure. They were taken by ferry from the island of Dominica to Guadeloupe. The 'AIDAperla' moored in Guadeloupe at 4 p.m. on Dec 18 – much earlier than scheduled and remained until Dec 19 at 6 p.m., after which it should continue to St. Johns according to schedule.
Medevac in Haugesund
Short time after the 'AIDAperla'cast off in Haugesund on July 20, 2022, at around 4 p.m., the maneuver was canceled and the ship was brought back to the pier due to a medical emergency on board. It turned out that the person concerned had to be supplied with adequate medical care on shore. Consequently, the quickest and easiest way was to abort the departure and hand the patient over to the ambulance at the pier. After this happened, the 'AIDAperla' left the port of Haugesund with a delay of about 40 minutes. Captain Michael Schmid informed the guests accordingly. It was assumed that the ship would compensate the delay on the route to Hellesylt.
