Wreck of trawler raised

The 'Akvanavt' has been raised in the port of Zarubino by the Marine Rescue Service with the floating cranes 'Chernomorets 10' (IMO: 8933679) and 'Chernomorets 24' (IMO: 8933710) on Feb 11. The water was pumped out and the vessel straightened to bring it to an even keel. The oil-water mixture was removed from the surface of the water. 690 cubic meters of oily-water mixture have so far been collected during the salvage operation. There were about 20 tons of fuel on board at the time of the sinking.

Crabber sank in Zarubino, chief engineer died

The 'Abanavt' started sinking at its berth in the port of Zarubino, Primorye, on Feb 2, while unloading the catch. The ship had suffered a massive water ingress. Of the 15 crew members, 14 could save themselves onto the pier from the foundering ship. The chief engineer died while trying to keep the ship afloat. The master was taken to hospital to be treated for hypothermia. After the ship settled on the bottom within a few minutes, only the masts were still protruding from the icy water.
