Lifeboat kept schooner afloat
The German 36-m-charter yacht „Skythia“, 55 dwt (classifikation GL D046-050-06 Klasse BR 100 A5) ran aground on Nov 2, 2016, with a crew of six on board enroute from Wismar to Greifswald off the breakwater of Warnemünde and suffered a breach with ensuing water ingress. The "Arkona" of the DGzRS station Warnemünde was alerted at 5.46 p.m. and attended the schooner which had managed to back off with own power and kept it afloat with dewatering pumps while it was escorted to the Hohe Düne Marina in Warnemünde. The leak was then patched by the crew of the "Arkona" and the ship prohibited to leave until sufficient repairs have been carried out.
