Angler rescued within 15 minutes, but later died

Tue Feb 07 10:39:32 CET 2023 Timsen

A 45-year-old angler had a fatal accident on the Warnow in the morning of Feb 4, 2023. The man had fallen from a rubber dinghy into the water near the Rostock fishing port. At around 10:55 a.m., the emergency situation was reported to the DGzRS. The 'Arkona' was alerted and along with its daughter boat which was on a training at the time, made its way to the scene of the accident. In addition, the police boat "Uecker" of the Rostock police and the survey ship "Capella" of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency were used for support. The rescuers arrived at the scene of the accident around ten minutes later, and just five minutes later they found the casualty and pulled him on board the 'Caspar'. The immediately initiated the necessary resuscitation measures and headed for a nearby pier. There the patient was handed over to the rescue service, but he later died in a hospital. The police boat "Uecker" was able to secure the rubber dinghy. The water police have started investigating how the accident happened.

Lifeboat kept schooner afloat

Fri Nov 04 10:58:21 CET 2016 Timsen

The German 36-m-charter yacht „Skythia“, 55 dwt (classifikation GL D046-050-06 Klasse BR 100 A5) ran aground on Nov 2, 2016, with a crew of six on board enroute from Wismar to Greifswald off the breakwater of Warnemünde and suffered a breach with ensuing water ingress. The "Arkona" of the DGzRS station Warnemünde was alerted at 5.46 p.m. and attended the schooner which had managed to back off with own power and kept it afloat with dewatering pumps while it was escorted to the Hohe Düne Marina in Warnemünde. The leak was then patched by the crew of the "Arkona" and the ship prohibited to leave until sufficient repairs have been carried out.
