Schooner to be repaired in Hvide Sande

The "No. 5 Elbe" is to be repaired at the Hvide Sande Shipyard. The Hamburg Maritim foundation will tow the ship to the local yard which has the expertise for such works. It was the only yard which had participated in the tender for the repair of the collision damage. Actually the wreck is drydocked at the Peters Yard in Wewelsfleth where the hull will be patched so that the ship can be towed. In the morning of June 21 the tug ‘Helmut‘ started pulling the ‘No. 5 Elbe‘ from Stadersand to Wewelsfleth. It was to be repaired at the Peters Yard. A report had certified that the ship would survive the crossing safely. In the evening, the vessel was expected in the port of Wewelsfleth where it will be carefully pulled out of the water. Schooner floating again

Experts of the Spanish Ardentia Marine prepared the "No. 5 Elbe" for raising. Divers have fixed lifting bags a the hull with a lifting capacity of five tons each. Julian Matzner of the Stiftung Hamburg Maritim coordinated the works. With the low tide at 11 p.m. the lifting sacks were filled with compressed air, while pumps started removeing the water from the ship. In the early morning it was floating again and secured at the quay in the Schwinge estuary on June 17 at 1 a.m. After further investigations it was planned to lift the wreck with a floating crane onto a barge and transport it to Hamburg for thorough surveys.
