Yacht with five girls ran aground enroute from Cuxhaven to Rotterdam
The 'Fatuhiva', with a crew of five young girls, Elise Wurschmidt, Thelma Hvidsten Hem, Eva Hole Rødland, Amalie Sundnes Harjo and Lisa Strand Festervoll, who recently set off on a long-term voyage, with the Pacific Ocean as their destination, ran aground on Aug 24, 2024, en route from Cuxhaven to Rotterdam. The grounding occurred eight days after setting of from Dronningen at Bygdøy on Aug 16. After two days they had arrived in Skagen, and the next day the journey continued to the island of Anholt. It then took a day to sail to Kiel, and then the girls set course for the Kiel Canal, and on to Amsterdam. However, with rough seas and strong winds, they diverted to Cuxhaven. After the grounding, neither the engine, sails nor the bow thruster got them out into the deep again, and the boat on a sandbank and was stuck for an hour before a rescue boat arrived. Finally, the boat was towed back to a shipyard in Cuxhaven, where the boat was lifted ashore. The damage to the rudder and keel wa being examined. The crew was looking at solutions to transport the boat south in Europe to save time ahead of the Atlantic crossing.
