Ship released as no defiencies were found

Thu Aug 16 23:06:09 CEST 2012 Timsen

In the afternoon of Aug 16 French prosecutors decided not to commence legal proceedings against the "Blue Creek" which had been suspected of having left a legacy of pollution of several kilometers. A trail of what looked like oil was photographed on Aug 14 afternoon by the crew of an aircraft, 74 km off Penmarc'h. The ship was then ordered to divert to Brest, where it arrived Aug 15 morning. Initially, the prosecutors had asked for a deposit of € 500,000 of the shipowner, before changing their minds. A visit on board has revealed a design flaw of the separator for used oil. On the other hand, the logbooks showed that the ship was well maintained and most importantly, that it had recently completed the cleaning of tanks and ballast in port. The ship's captain received the end of the detention in the late afternoon. The ship left the port of Brest early in the evening.
