Yacht towed to Port Medoc

On April 7, 2022, at 7:31 a.m., the 'Marina', then 85 nautical miles from Hourtin, reported to the CROSS Etel via a private satellite system, that it was in difficulty because of total damage to the rudder. Approached by the cargo ship 'Lazurite' at 9:30 a.m. and flown over by a French Navy Atlantique 2 aircraft at 10:28 a.m., the yacht drifted out of control with three crew members on board. The skipper requested the towing of the sailboat. At 11.30 a.m., the CROSS Etel made contact with the fishing vessel 'Lagardère 2', then about 30 nautical miles from the 'Marina', and capable of intervening despite the arrival of storm Diego. The ship arrived near the sailboat at 8:22 p.m. Bad weather conditions prevented it from passing a tow line. It still supervised the Marina throughout the night and reassured his three crew members. On April 8 at 7:35 a.m., a meteorological lull allowed the CROSS Etel to engage the French Navy's Dauphin helicopter based in La Rochelle. Arrived in the area at 8:19 a.m., it hoisted its diver who set up a tow line between the 'Marina' and the 'Lagardère 2 to control the drift of the sailboat, then 45 nautical miles from Hourtin.
