Destroyer engaged six Houthi UAV

On March 23, 2024, between 6:50 and 9:50 a.m. (Sanaa time), U.S. forces, including the USS 'Carney (DDG 64)', engaged six Houthi unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) over the southern Red Sea. Five crashed into the Red Sea, and one flew inland into Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

Destroyer carried out another attack against Houthis

In the night of Jan 12, the USS 'Carney' carried out a follow-up attack on Houthi positions in Yemen. The attack, carried out with Tomahawk missiles, targeted land-based radar installations. The attack had a much smaller scale than the American-British attack in the night of Jan 11. There was no information on casualties in connection with the attack. There were also no reports of revenge attacks by the Houthis. After the latest attack, experts estimate that the Houthis no longer have the military capacity to carry out major attacks against ships in the Red Sea.

Destroyer shot down missiles and drones

On Oct 19, 2023, the USS 'Carney' shot down three cruise missiles and drones while the destroyer was sailing in the north of the Red Sea. The missiles were said to have been fired by Houthi rebels. The missiles were not aimed at the ship, but intended for land targets. Possibly the weapons were fired at Israel. “This action was a demonstration of the integrated air and missile defense architecture we have built in the Middle East, and which we are prepared to use when necessary to protect our partners and our interests in this important region,” Brigadier General Pat Ryder said.
