Rongsheng to deliver two mega-ships to Brazil Vale SA this year

Tue Jun 12 08:19:03 CEST 2012 arnekiel

According to a senior executive at Vale subsidiary in Singapore that heavy industry group Ch Rongsheng will deliver two mega-ships to Brazil Vale SA this year, SteelGuru reports. Mr Joao Mendes De Faria said on June 6 the two vessels will be the Vale Hebei and Vale Shandong and both would have cargo capacities of 400,000 tons each. He said that Ports in South Korea and Japan would be ready to receive Valemaxes soon. He predicted that Valemaxes would eventually carry half of the cargo from Brazil to Asia every year. Mr De Faria said the Ministry of Transport has banned Valemaxes from mooring in China ports. This means the huge ships must head to a deepwater port in Malaysia or one of two offshore stations in the Philippines. The cargo must then be unloaded and put on smaller ships that then head to China. By 2014, the three facilities will process a combined 60 million tons of cargo annually. Vale plans to have 35 of the mega ships known as Valemaxes in the water by 2014. Twenty four of the ships are being built by Chinese builders. Fifteen of the ships are in use and can moor at ports including Taranto in Italy, Sohar in Oman and Rotterdam in the Netherlands. http://www.steelguru.com/chinese_news/China_set_to_deliver_two_Mega_ships_to_Vale/268035.html
