Engine trouble off Belfast

Thu Oct 17 13:13:29 CEST 2019 Timsen

The 'Scot Isles', en route from Wicklow to Belfast with a crew of eight and 690 tonnes of timber as cargo on board, suffered an engine cooling problem in position 54 15 17 N, 005 33 10 W, on Oct 15, 2019, at 7 p.m. The vessel stopped to effect repairs and berthed in Belfast on Oct 16 at 4 a.m.

Scot Isles listing in rough seas after cargo shifted

Mon Dec 24 14:09:51 CET 2012 Timsen

The "Scot Isles" after having left the port of Riga in the afternoon of Dec 23 bound for Rochester suffered strong list to starboard between Gotland and Latvia on a position 23 miles SE of Östergarn, Gotland. It radioed a mayday on Dec 24, 2012, at 8 a.m. Parts of the deck cargo of swan timber had shifted causing the list. A helicopter was sent from Visby and was on scene at 09.10 a.m. to evacuate the ship, if needed. The "Regina Baltica" proceeded to the ship and assisted in maintaining radio traffic, the lifeboat from Värnburg set off, but was meanwhile called back, and the merchant ship "Aila" also went on standby. The master decided that the crew should remain on board and the ship would proceed to Liepaja with own power as he estimated that the situation would not get worse, but did not dare to turn the ship around to Gotland in seas of 3-5 metres and winds of 15 m/s. The list remained stable at 15 degrees. The Swedish coastguard monitored the vessel with the surveillance plane KBV 502 on its way. The patrol boat "KBV 503" was heading towards the casualty as well as a rescue ship from Liepaja. The "Scot Isles" on Dec 24 at 11 a.m. was about 45 miles from Liepaja, and the Riga MRCC took over the on scene command. They worked on trying to get a berth in Liepaja in order to take the ship there. The "Scot Isle" finally docked in the port at 4.40 p.m. Swedish report with photo: http://www.kustbevakningen.se/sv/sakerhet-till-sjoss/nyhetsarkiv/fartyg-med-slagsida-ost-om-gotland/
