Medevac in Key West

Thu Oct 21 11:13:49 CEST 2021 Timsen

The 'Serenade of the Seas' diverted to Key West on Oct 20, 2021, for a medevac, thus becaming the first cruise ship to call in the port since the beginning of the pandemic. The diversion required the coordination of the U.S. Coast Guard, Key West authorities, the Key West Police, and the harbour pilots. The ship had departed the port of Tampa on Oct 16 on its first cruise from Tampa and the first for the port since March 2020. The captain then reported that an 81-year-old male passenger was in critical condition with septic shock. The passenger required urgent medical care. The decision was made to bring the cruise ship in briefly for the medevac. The U.S. Coast Guard cleared the way for an emergency stop by the 'Serenade of the Seas' in the afternoon. To evacuate the man at Pier B in Key West was the only way the individual would have a chance of surviving. A Coast Guard Station Key West small boat crew escorted the Serenade of the Seas to Key West’s Pier B for the medical evacuation. The ship departed Key West at approximately 3:30 p.m. and resumed the voyage to Tampa. The passenger was transferred to the Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West. Cruise ships assist in evacuation in St. Vincent

Wed Apr 14 11:47:55 CEST 2021 Timsen

The 'Carnival Legend' and 'Carnival Paradise' were released from standby off St. Vincent on April 13, 2021, even as Soufrière volcano continued erupting, while a pair of Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises vessels remained in the vicinity. Government officials in St. Vincent have advised Carnival there was no immediate need for an off-island evacuation of local residents. In consultation with the government, Carnival will be moving the 'Carnival Legend' and 'Carnival Paradise' from the area, but we stand ready to assist should the circumstances change. Over the weekend, the 'Serenade of the Seas' had carried 137 evacuees from St. Vincent to St. Lucia. The 'Celebrity Reflection' has also been on hand. The ships remained in the vicinity, on standby, waiting for the next assist effort. Though as many as 20,000 people have reportedly fled the northern region where Soufrière is located, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves might call off the cruise ships since most people were staying on the island for now. Those who'd been evacuated by the ship were farm workers on a seasonal agricultural program whose flight to Canada had been canceled. They were to fly back from St. Lucia instead. The Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships each have about 100 crew on board and rushed from their layup in Barbados to assist as did the two Carnival vessels that also have been laid up in the region. The volcano erupted on April 9. Report with photos: https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2021/04/11/photos-royal-caribbean-cruise-ships-help-st-vincent-after-volcano-eruption

Three passengers medevaced in Bermuda

Thu Nov 01 12:08:54 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Serenade of the Seas" was forced to divert to Bermuda after three passengers needed medical treatment. The vessel, which was travelling from Boston to the island of St. Maarten in the Eastern Caribbean, arrived in Bermuda on Oct 30, 2018, after three passengers were found suffering from a range of issues and needed medical care on land. The ship reached Bermuda in the morning to conduct the medical disembarkation of three passengers suffering from internal bleeding, broken limb and respiratory. The transfers took place in the Murray’s Anchorage area due to offshore swell, with ships medical team escorting patients ashore via pilot boat St. David, for transfer via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. The Serenade of the Seas then carried on its journey with the rest of the passengers onboard. The ship’s other ports of call included Antigua, Aruba, Barbados and Curacao,
