Allision in Tsawwassen

Mon Apr 20 19:29:01 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'Spirit of Vancouver Island' allided with the dock at Tsawwassen ferry terminal, resulting in two cancelled departures and a four-hour disembarkment delay for some passengers on April 18, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. Two departures were cancelled that evening, though two were added later the day to help keep goods and traffic moving. Passengers travelling by foot were able to disembark as scheduled. But the main car deck and upper vehicle deck passengers were not unloaded fully until about 8:30 p.m. as temporary repairs had to be made. The crew could not get the ramp down because the metal was sticking up about two feet which had to be cut away. The damage seemed significant. Vehicle crash forced passengers to stay aboard ferry

Mon Jan 13 19:06:31 CET 2020 Timsen

A vehicle crash near BC Ferries' Tsawwassen terminal in Vancouver has forced passengers aboard the 'Spirit of Vancouver' to remain onboard on Jan 13, 2020. At 9:15 a.m., BC Ferries said that the vessel was holding in the Tsawwassen dock until the accident was cleared. The head-on collision involved three-vehicles near Tsatsu Shores Drive. One person was seriously injured and traffic on Highway 17 was reduced to one lane alternating in each direction. Once the area has been cleared, passengers aboard the 'Spirit of Vancouver Island' will be allowed to disembark. Once the vessel is emptied, new vehicles and customers will be directed on board. The additional delays came after three straight days of BC Ferries sailing cancellations due to weather as jigh winds and snowfall swept across Vancouver Island and the province's coast throughout the weekend.

Ferry suffered ramp malfunction

Sat Aug 10 23:47:48 CEST 2019 Timsen

Passengers on the "Spirit of Vancouver Island" were trapped on board in Swartz Bay after a mechanical issue in the afternoon of Aug 10, 2019. The starboard ramp malfunctioned on the ship. Both the 11 a.m. sailing departing Swartz Bay and the 1 p.m. sailing departing Tsawwassen were cancelled due to the upper car deck visor door not opening. The ferry had to depart the berth and reverse in to offload vehicles,. Passengers stuck on the ferry left Tsawwassen at 9:04 a.m. and did not get off the boat until just after 1 p.m. People who had reservations were accommodated on the next available sailing.
