Condensation in electronics caused engine failure
The 'Ventura' was disabled and went adrift on Dec 7, 2019, around 8.30 p.m. short time after leaving Santa Cruz De Tenerife during her 12-day cruise which started at Southampton on Dec 1. The faiure occurred as the vessel was sailing from Santa Cruz de Tenerife towards the next port of call of Arrecife. The ship which had suffered a propulsion failure because of condensation in electronics requested assistance and was taken in tow on Dec 8 at 1.20 a.m. The ship did still have the bow thrusters available. Medevac off Isle of Wight
The RNLI boat from Bembridge has assisted an unwell patient after suffering a suspected heart attack on board the "Ventura" while it was sailing past the Isle of Wight in the evening of March 24, 2019, at 8 p.m. The boat was tasked by Solent Coastguard at the same time that the Coastguard Helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was scrambled. Both SAR assets made best speed to rendezvous with the vessel around 10 miles east of the Isle of Wight. The "Ventura" had left Southampton at 5:30 p.m. bound for Vigo. At 9.35 p.m. the Coastguard Rescue 175 hoisted a crew member of the ship and transported him directly to Southampton General Hospital. The Bembridge ALB was stood down from the incident and returned to the boathouse off Lane End at 10 p.m. The "Ventura" resumed its journey to Vigo albeit slightly behind schedule. P&O Cruises Ventura completes two-week docking at Damen Shiprepair Brest
The P&O Cruises Grand-class cruise ship Ventura has just completed a two-week docking at Damen Shiprepair Brest. Launched in 2008, this was the first visit of the 290-metre, 116,000 DWT vessel to the yard, where she underwent a regular docking together with a range of maintenance works, the company said in its press release. Major features of the maintenance programme included the installation of two exhaust gas scrubbers, for which Damen Shiprepair Brest (DSBr) designed, manufactured and installed a sea chest. While the Ventura was in DSBr’s Drydock number 3, at 420m by 80m the largest of DSBr’s three dry docks, the hull was ultra-high-pressure water blasted and then, along with the superstructure, repainted. Additional works included maintenance of the propulsion systems and stabilisers, plus other minor repairs.
