Two U.S. Coast Guard cutters returned a combined 92 migrants on April 24, 2024, following four separate interdictions of unlawful, irregular migration attempts over the weekend. The 'Isaac Mayo' transferred 40 people to the Bahamas, following two interdictions of migration attempts on April 19. The first of the two interdictions occurred on the morning when watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami received notification from Border Patrol and CBP Air and Marine Operations crews that Miami-Dade Police were on-scene with a migrant venture in Biscayne Bay. The second interdiction occurred Friday night when watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West received notification from Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations crews of a migrant venture south of Key Largo, Florida. The crew of the 'William Trump' repatriated 52 people to Cuba, following two migration attempts on April 19, 2024 and April 21, 2024. The first of the two interdictions occurred on the morning of April 19, when watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West received notification from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office of a migrant venture south of Boot Key. The second interdiction occurred on April 21 during the night hours, when watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West received notification from the Coast Guard Cutter 'Willow' of a migrant venture south of Marathon, Florida. Once aboard the Coast Guard cutter, all migrants received food, water, shelter, and basic medical attention.

The 'Pelican' interdicted a lancha and seized 350 pounds of illegally caught fish in federal waters off southern Texas on April 25, 2024, in coordination with Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watch standers, and Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi aircrews. The patrol boat located and stopped four Mexican fishermen engaged in illegal fishing north of the Maritime Boundary Line. After interdicting the lanchas, Coast Guard personnel seized 350 pounds of red snapper, along with fishing gear and highflyers on board the vessels. They detained the men, brought them ashore and transferred the detainees to U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel for further processing. The seized fish will be split and donated to the Harte Institute to support Illegal Unreported and Unregulated Fishing research and Sea Turtle Inc. to help feed and rehabilitate turtles. U.S. Coast Guard crews have given up the search for a 49-year-old Cordova man who went missing after an explosion and subsequent fire on a fixed barge at Delong Dock in Whittier, Alaska, shortly after midnight on Monday. The fire spread to the pier and then to the Anagalik, a 99-foot commercial fishing vessel that was initially reported to have two people aboard at the time of the explosion. Whittier Police Department personnel have since confirmed one of those two is safely aboard a different vessel en route to Whittier. The fire has now been extinguished, but the fishing vessel and barge sank in 85 feet of water at the pier with a potential maximum of 5,500 gallons of fuel oil aboard. The fishing vessel owners have contracted Global Diving and Salvage for clean-up and salvage efforts. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak has searched for the missing person by air, and crews aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Chandeleur and Coast Guard Auxiliary 336 searched nearby waters.

The repatriated migrants were transferred to Dominican Republic authorities during a rendezvous with a Dominican Republic Navy vessel just off the Dominican Republic. Two other interdicted migrants remained in U.S. custody facing criminal immigration charges in the U.S. District Court of Puerto Rico. During the interdiction on April 21, a Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew sighted a 20-foot grossly overloaded makeshift vessel, approximately 45 nautical miles northeast of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan diverted the 'Heriberto Hernandez' to intercept the suspect vessel. Following the interdiction, the crew embarked 13 migrants, who claimed to be Dominican Republic nationals. During an interdiction on April 22, the aircrew of a Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft sighted a 30-foot grossly overloaded makeshift vessel, approximately 31 nautical miles west of Ricon, Puerto Rico. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector San Juan diverted the 'Winslow Griesser' to intercept the suspect vessel. The 'Sea Otter' was among the units responding to a fire that started on the Oceanside Pier in San Diego on the afternoon of April 25, 2024. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center received notification from the Oceanside Fire Department of a fire on the pier, that was reported to have originated from a vacant restaurant. The 'Sea Otter' was in the area, and the crew began responding to the fire with the use of pumps and hoses. Members of the California Fire Department and San Diego Sheriff’s Department also arrived to assist with response efforts. There have been no reported injuries. Shandong Landbridge Group has entered into an agreement with Beijing Energy Group to jointly develop a LNG receiving terminal at Landbrige Port in Rizhao. Under the agreement, the two parties will invest RMB6.7bn ($973m) in total for the construction of the terminal, which will have a designed handling capacity of 5m tons of LNG annually. Additionally, the two companies plan to join their efforts to develop overseas energy projects.

This translates to a reduction from 38 minutes to just four. DP World Australia has called for an end to the strikes at its ports this week, warning that the industrial action comes at a time when shipping lines are reviewing stevedore contracts. “The industrial action will cause significant disruption to DPWA customers and importantly the broader supply chain of shippers, exporters and importers. DPWA employees will also be unnecessarily and avoidably impacted by these lost earnings,” said Andrew Adam, chief operating officer at DPWA. DP World’s Brisbane, Sydney and Fremantle container terminals are on a rolling 48-hour strike, while workers at the company’s Melbourne operations have decided to down tools for 96 hours. The workers said in a release their actions this week are in order to fight against automation, outsourcing, cuts to income protection insurance, and “dishonest bargaining” by the company During the recent 12-week bargaining period, DP World said the local union did not make any material concessions to its initial 50 claims. These claims include a wage increase well above CPI, DP World said.

After many creditors withdrew distraint proceedings, the Commercial Court in Rijeka decided on Thursday to postpone the bankruptcy of Croatia’s debt-ridden shipyard “3. Maj” until Aug. 1. Seven days ago the shipyard’s account was blocked for 156 million kuna (23.8 million U.S. dollars). After some of the creditors pulled back, the blockade now amounts to 86 million kuna (13.1 million U.S. dollars). Judge of the Commercial Court in Rijeka Ljiljana Ugrin urged Croatian Electricity Industry and the Croatian government to engage in the process of revocation of the enforcement order, so that “3. Maj” could continue with unfinished shipbuilding contracts.
