Castaways repatriated from Abidjan

The 29 castaways of the 'Albacora Seis' arrived in Abidjan on Feb 18. They had rescued by the 'Montelape' on Feb 15, and in the same night, they were transferred onto the 'Kurtzio' for the transport to Abidjan. The longliner had suffered a water ingress on Feb 14 and sank after a few hours as the crew could not control the flooding. As soon as the crew has completed all procedures in port, they will be repatriated to their home towns. Besides the Galician crew members there were about 20 Africans on board.

Castaways arrived in Abidjan

Two days after the sinking of the "Albacora Seis" in the Gulf of Guinea, its 29 crew members, several of them from Morrrazo, arrived in Abidjan aboard the "Kurtzio" (IMO: 7385461) on Feb 17. All were safe and sound after the shipwreck. They had jumped into the water after the ship began to sink due to a leak and were rescued by another ship that worked in the area, the "Montelape" (IMO: 8021775), belonging to the Calvo Group fleet. Subsequently, the "Kurtzio" - a ship of the owner of the "Albacora Seis" - was called to collec the crew for their transfer to land.

Longliner sank, crew rescued

The 'Albacora 6' with a Galician crew on board suffered a water ingress and sank in the Atlantic south of the Ivory Coast, 260 miles south of Abidjan, in the afternoon of Feb 15, 2020. The 'Kurtzio', another Spanish ship in the tuna fleet of the Nicra-7 company, rescued the 29 crew members in good health. They were transferred onto another fishing vessel, the 'Monte Lape', belonging to the Calvo Group from Carballo.
