Disabled ferry under tow to breakers

Tue May 04 09:50:27 CEST 2021 Timsen

Repairs of the 'Pray', which had suffered an engine failure on April 1, 2020, at the Haydarpasa Container Terminal in Istanbul could not be carried out due to the expensive repair budget. The vessel was sold to a scrapyard in Aliaga. The Turkish tug 'Haktan 1' (IMO: 9899648) was contracted to tow the vessel from Istanbul to Aliaga. Towage commenced on May 2, 2021. The vessel arrived at Aliaga anchorage on May 3 and entered the scrapyard on May 10. The recycling process commenced upon completion of environmental permission formalities. The vessel status has been changed from to dead as of May 26.

Oil spill in western Finland

Thu Jun 30 10:29:18 CEST 2011 Timsen

The "Kapella", underway from Turku to Kapellskar on June 29, 2011, caused an oil spill in the eastern part of the Sottunga Bay. The spill was 35 kilometers long and was discovered by a helicopter from the border guards. The leakage could be stopped and the vessel was allowed to proceed one hour later. The Coast Guard was unable to recover the oil as it was too scattered. It was also unknown how large amounts were spilt.
