ZWERVER 3
The 'Zwerver 3', which was en route to Antwerp with an industrial structure, was forced to divert to the port of Los Mármoles (Arrecife) on Aug 9, 2025. The crew of the tug had discovered that 49 stowaways had hidden in the structure. The ship had departed Dakar ten days ago. On the morning of Aug 8, the crew contacted the port of Arrecife to request permission to moor. The port authorities requested the ship to deposit a bail of one million euros, because maritime law stipulates that the shipowner is responsible for the maintenance, housing, and return journey of stowaways traveling clandestinely. The ship had to wait for several hours off the coast, awaiting permission from the maritime authorities to enter the port. The port of Los Mármoles ultimately permitted the stowaways to arrive for humanitarian reasons. The 'Zwerver 3' left the port again on Aug 12 with an ETA at the port of destination as of Aug 30.
