One person was injured on the afternoon of July 14, 2025, aboard the 'Rotterdam', while the vessel's crew was carrying out work at the Borssele wind farm. After consulting with the Coast Guard, it was decided that the victim had to be medevaced. A KNRM lifeboat from Breskens was dispatched to transport the person to an ambulance. The 'Rotterdam' was almost 60 kilometers from Breskens. The two ships were sailing towards each other and rendezvoused after about an hour. The injured person was then transferred aboard the lifeboat, which headed for Flushing.
GNV ATLAS
A Moroccan national suffered a cardiac arrest on the 'GNV Atlas' on July 13, while the ship was en route from Barcelona to the port of Beni Ansar on July 13, 2025, and needed to be medevaced. The crew sent a distress call to the Moroccan authorities. A joint coordination between the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Health enabled the emergency dispatch of a Moroccan medical helicopter from one of the nearby air bases. It landed on the ship's deck. The medical team accompanying the helicopter provided first aid to the sick man. The patient was then transferred on board the aircraft and taken to one of the hospitals in Nador, where he was received by a medical team for the necessary examinations and treatment. ESKIL
The Swedish State Accident Investigation Board has investigated the near collision of the ferry 'Baltic Princess' (IMO: 9354284) and the 'Eskil' off Stockholm on Oct 4, 2025. The results now stated that the incident was caused by the 'Eskil' which had departed from Ålstäket towards the Ström Quay in Stockholm In heavy fog and had a problem with an alarm from the starboard side main engine. When the alarm could not be reset, the crew decided to head directly towards the Ström Qiay. In the meantime, the master and deckhand tried to silence the recurring alarm and to restart the main engine. The 'Eskil' thus came far to the port side of the fairway in an unplanned manner. After this, the crew must have discovered that the 'Baltic Princess' was directly in front of the ship. The master of the 'Eskil' then increased speed and turned to starboard. The 'Baltic Princess' had to give way to the ship by first turning to port and then giving hard rudder to starboard. According to the Swedish Maritime Safety Board, the 'Eskil' passed “very close to the bow of the Baltic Princess” at the time of the incident. The cause was considered to be that the master of the 'Eskil' was exposed to an abnormally high workload for a prolonged period due to the sound alarms. Another factor was considered to be the lack of knowledge and familiarity with the technical systems on board. The Swedish Maritime Safety Board believed that this led to attention being diverted from navigation and that the ship therefore drifted unintentionally to port. The recommendation to the operator Djurgårdens Färjetrafik AB was now to ensure that the crews have the knowledge of the engine system that is required to be able to handle different situations that may arise.
PLS 602
The Greek Coast Guard was alerted on the afternoon of July 14, 2025, sgzrt a Portuguese FRONTEX vessel sank off Anaxos in Lesvos, after hitting a rock, next to the islet of Agios Georgios, Prtras, which resulted in the rupture of the keel and water ingress. The FRONTEX vessel sank at approximately 6 p.m. The acciident had happened during an SAR operation for four of 40 migrants who were on board a boat in which they had crossed to the Lapsarna area of Lesvos enroute..The group had crossed from Çanakkale, Turkey, and reported that four fellows went missing after their boat collided with a merchant ship in Turkish waters, and had not reached the shore. The migrants were taken to the Kara Tepe “Mavrovouni” reception center on Lesvos. The 'PÖS 602' and a Super Puma Air Force helicopter immediately rushed to the scene to participate in the operation to locate and rescue the occupants. Also a fishing vessel and two excursion boats went to the scene. The occupants of the FRONTEX vessel were located on an inflatable life raft and were pciked up by the 'PLS 602' in good health. They were safely transported to the port of Molyvos. Among them were five Portuguese and one Greek national, The Portuguese FRONTEX vessel phad articipated in the “Poseidon – Thalassa” operation, which concerns the assistance in guarding the maritime borders of the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean. The vessel was small, with a polyester base and inflatable side balloons. A preliminary investigation was conducted by the Central Port Authority of Mytilene and the Mithymna Port Station. BNS OOSTENDE
The 'Oostende' collided with a floating pontoon in Lorient on May 26, 2025, damaging its bulbous bow. An Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV), which was attached to the pontoon, was damaged too. The bulbous bow, which is made of composite, has to be replaced. This will be done during a planned dry-docking period. The incident caused delays but not additional costs. At this stage, the ship was still entirely the responsibility of the contractors, Naval Group and Exail. The maneuver was therefore carried out by a civilian crew hired by the contractors. An investigation by the contractors should clarify exactly what happened, but it does not appear that any other critical systems such as the sonar were damaged. Once this investigation has been completed, the revised timeline for the 'Oostende's delivery will also become clearer . The delivery of the minehunterr was scheduled for July 23. This is not the first time the delivery has been delayed. The original schedule called for delivery in May 2024, but this date was changed to July 2025.
YEMEN
Evidence has emerged that the Houthi administration is siphoning off crude oil from the 'Yemen', which is maintained by the United Nations off Ras Isa. The oil that the Houthis have purloined, came originally from Yemen’s Marib oilfield, and had been stored in the floating oil storage facility 'FSO Safer' (IMO: 7376472), moored off Ras Isa, which into disuse when the Houthis captured the coastal area around Ras Isa and Hodeidah in 2015, and the Safer Exploration and Production Operations Company (SEPOC) stopped pumping their Marib crude, as they could no longer sell it. The 'FSO Safer' was left holding 1.14 million barrels of oil, today worth nearly $80 million. Holding the oil but unable to sell it, the Houthis also prevented maintenance, and the cargo became progressively more volatile as the condition of the ship deteriorated, threatening an explosion and an environmental catastrophe. In 2022, the Houthis finally agreed to a deal with the UN, whereby the oil was transferred to the 'Yemen', that was acquired for the specific purpose. There was no further agreement to proceed either with the removal and salvage of the 'FSO Safer' or with the disposal of the crude oil now aboard the 'Yemen', whose ownership was disputed between by the Houthis and SEPOC. Thus for the last two years, the 'FSO Safer' has remained in position, with the 'Yemen' moored nearby and still fully loaded. In the meantime, the ownership of the 'Yemen 'has been transferred gratis to SEPOC, although the UN has also continued to pay directly for the maintenance crew on board the ship. On June 8, the tanker 'Seastar 1' (IMO 9163283) was seen alongside the 'Yemen', transferring oil, and offloaded it in Ras Isa. Prior to this, the 'Yemen' had also carried out ship-to-ship transfers of Russian petroleum products. The UN has lodged a protest over the oil transfers, which must have been made with the aid of the Yemen’s UN-sponsored but presumably press-ganged crew. It would also be feasible for crude oil to be barged the short distance into Ras Isa using lighters. Given that the 'Yemen' now has a UN-paid crew, and the vessel itself is owned by the Yemeni government’s SEPOC, it may be difficult to curb future siphoning of crude that is much needed by the Houthis.
TUNU PRATAMA JAYA
The plan to recover the KNP ÄTunu Pratama Jaya'Ä was announced after the joint search and rescue team confirmed the location of the wreck of the sunken vessel, The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) would coordinate with port authorities and the Transportation Ministry regarding the next stage of the recovery of victims from the wreck. The operation to recover the wreck had passed the administrative phase, marked by local seaport authorities informing operators about the plan. The Tanjung Perak Seaport in Surabaya, East Java, had also notified ships in Ketapang Seaport in Banyuwangi to avoid the last known position of the ferry. After that, relevant agencies would dispatch technical teams to draft a plan to raise the wreck. The operation to recover the wreck would meet several challenges, ranging from weather to the strong current in the strait with the surface current being faster than 0.8 knots. Divers were immediately swept by the current. The wreck was located approximately 3.9 kilometers from the site of the accident by a drone operated by the Indonesian Navy’s hydro-oceanographic support vessel KRI 'Spica'. The discovery came after four underwater search attempts, which were hindered by strong currents. A preliminary investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) found that the likely cause of the sinking was the crew’s failure to close the engine room door before leaving port. Investigators had questioned surviving crew and passengers and discovered that seawater first entered the ferry through an open engine room door located on the lower deck. The hatch to the engine room should have remained closed at all times while the ship was sailing. It was still investigated whether the vessel was overloaded at the time of the accident by the KNKT Maritime Safety Subcommittee. A team of investigators from the East Java Police's Marine and Air (Polairud) Directorate and Banyuwangi police precinct was conducting the probe. To support the investigation, the Polairud team applied a scientific crime investigation approach and side-scan sonar to map the wreck of the vessel which was resting upside down on the seabed of the Bali Strait.

MARCO POLO
The shipping company TT-Line has taken note of the recommendations following the major oil spill from the 'Marco Polo' after it ran aground off Blekinge in October 2023. This was the assessment of the Swedish Maritime Accident Investigation Board, which is was now closing the case. The board assessed that the TT-Line has followed the six recommendations given by the Swedish Maritime Accident Investigation Board after the incident. Among other things, more training for personnel and emergency drills were recommended. The Swedish Maritime Accident Investigation Board has also proposed that the government should investigate how major shipping accidents can be better handled.
