All 21 crew members of the 'Fulda' were brought to the port of Kandla after an explosion ripped a large section of the forward deck open. The tanker had completed the offloading of a cargo of methanol at the Deendayal terminal in Kandla and departed at mid-morning on July 6 en route to Oman. Initial interrogations by the Directorate General showed the vessel had begun a gas-freeing operation to vent its tanks after the discharge. The authorities were investigating the improper handling of flammable vapors and possibly inadequate flushing and purging of the tanks. They believed that a flammable vapor-air mixture had built up in the tanks. The tanker had more than 384 metric tons of fuel aboard. The pollution control vessel was standing by, but so far, there were no reports of a fuel discharge. MSC ELSA 3
Salvage operations at the 'MSC Elsa 3' are due to be launched in August or when the weather conditions become favourable by Smit Salvage. The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), has submitted an action plan in this regard. They have not yet arrived in Kochi, but have informed the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) on July 4, that they will arrive with all support facilities when the turbulence ends. Meanwhile, a team from the MSC shipping company was staying in Kochi. The captain and the crew members were also still staying in Kochi. The MMD principal officer, who is investigating the safety lapses behind the incident, has submitted an interim report to the DG Shipping and is waiting for the recovery of the voice data recorder to complete the probe. The MSC had decided to cancel the contract with the T&T Salvage as it lacked facilities for the operations and was seeking help from the Kochi port and the Coast Guard for the operations, which raised doubts that they were lacking the technical facility to conduct the salvage operations,

MSC BALTIC III
The cleanup effort aboard the 'MSC Baltic III' has been consistent over the last few weeks. Insurance company representatives have been on site since the beginning. There still isn't an official timeline for when the work will be completed, The fuel was hoped to be removed from the vessel by winter. As of July 5, 70% of the heavy fuel on board has been removed, as well as 172 containers. Likely the vessel will remain at its current location through the winter. There were six priority tanks filled with heavy fuel on board that are almost all removed, but there were still other hydrocarbons that needed to be removed with them. Removing the oil takes time because it has to be heated between 70 C and 80 C so it can be pumped out,That can be hard to achieve with short windows of opportunity to safely board the vessel. The 'EEMS Dublin' is on site, and the work is going more smoothly because it has a walkway. Regarding the tar balls which have been appearing on the shoreline near the grounded vessel. a response organization and Environment Canada have ramped up their shoreline assessments.

Beirut
The French container giant CMA CGM is working on a plan to rebuild the port of Beirut within three years. Political stalemate in Lebanon has meant that no decisions have been made after the huge explosion that killed 200 in 2020. CMA CGM first presented the plan to the Lebanese authorities in September, which includes the reconstruction of damaged quay facilities and warehouses, along with a port expansion and digitization. The total price was estimated to be between 400 and 600 million. dollar. Another offer was announced on April 9, 2021. German companies presented a multi-billion dollar plan to rebuild the port and surrounding districts, which was also devastated by the violent explosion.
