The Koblenz public prosecutor's office has started investigating the captains of the 'Elegant Lady' for the suspicion of endangering shipping traffic after the allision on July 2, which caused property damage of approximately 2.5 million euros. Five people were slightly injured, According to the preliminary assessment by the appointed expert, a technical defect is currently assumed. The high temperature in the engine room was said to have caused a failure of the shared power supply for the rudder propeller systems, which may have led to a loss of control of the ship. The first ships have now passed through the damaged St. Aldegund Moselle lock heading upstream. First, a 105-meter-long motorized cargo vessel loaded with iron ore was locked through, heading toward Dillingen upon the Saar, followed by several other ships, which passedthrough the lock in emergency operation. There have been no changes at the gate, and therte was optimism that this will continue until the new gate is completed. On the morning of July 8, a diver was sent to the lock gate for inspections. That could happen at the end of August or in September. There were still around 20 ships in front of the lock, waiting to be locked in upstream direction. So far, around 47 ships have been locked in the other direction. Passenger ships can also use the lock without guests on board. It is currently unclear when this restriction will be lifted.

MATTHEW TT
The efforts to sell the 'Matthew' were continuing after eight men were jailed for a total of 129 years on July 4, 2025. The ship, which remained tied up in Passage West, has cost the state over nine million Euro to crew and maintain, with the engines running for almost two years now. A preferred bidder has been identified, but there was an extremely large amount of regulation to adhere to with the Marine surveying office in terms of adhering to that legislation and working through the embassies in Colombia, with the flag station Panama, to ensure to get all the regulatory compliance before the vessel can be disposed of.

MSC AKITETA II
The Kerala High Court has ordered the conditional arrest of the 'MSC Akiteta II' over compensation claims arising from the sinking of the 'MSC Elsa 3', which had allegedly caused widespread environmental and economic damage (State of Kerala v MSC Akiteta II & ors). The Justice MA Abdul Hakhim passed the interim order on an admiralty suit filed by the Kerala government seeking a compensation of Rs9,531 crore. The ship is currently anchored at Kerala's Vizhinjam and within the jurisdiction of the High Court. In its plaint, the State invoked Section 4 of the Admiralty (Jurisdiction and Settlement of Maritime Claims) Act, 2017, to seek compensation, including Rs8,626.12 crores for pollution damage, Rs378.48 crores for environmental restoration, and Rs526.51 crores for economic losses suffered by fishermen and coastal communities, amounting to a total maritime claim of Rs9,531.11 crores, with interest on the entire sum. The State submitted that its claim arose due to the environmental damage, economic loss to fisherfolk and government expenditure on containment and clean up of the shores and informed the Court that relief payments and free rations had been issued to over 1 lakh affected families. The government submitted that the 'MSC Akiteka II' is within the Court's jurisdiction but was at risk of leaving Indian waters imminently and therefore, the Court should invoke Section 5(1)(b) read with Section 5(2) of the Admiralty Ac and order the immediate arrest of the vessel. The Court observed that the documents on record established a prima facie case, showing that the two vessels were sister ships and that MSC had substantial control over both. The Court noted that the continued presence of the 'MSC Akiteta II' within its jurisdiction gave it authority under Sections 4 and 5 of the Admiralty Act to pass a conditional order of arrest. Accordingly, the Court ordered the ship to be detained until the owners deposited Rs9,531 crore or provided adequate security. Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd was directed to execute the arrest and ensure safe custody of the vessel. The Court also clarified that the order would not interfere with the loading or unloading of cargo. The matter will be heard next on July 10, 2025. This is the third MSC vessel to be detained by the Court in connection with the sinking of the 'MSC Elsa 3'.
SERENADE OF THE SEAS
The 'Serenade of the Seas' has returned to Vancouver just two hours after setting sail, with undisclosed technical issues having a significant impact on her current sailing. The ship was to have departed Vancouver on July 6, 2025 for a 7-night Inside Passage sailing in Alaska. The ship already left the port a bit later than originally scheduled, but then turned back after just two hours and as of the afternoon and has remained in Vancouver since. The ship appears to be having engine difficulties, but the passengers were not being permitted off to explore the city. No safety systems have been impacted. Already on the last cruise, the 'Serenade of the Seas' had to skip a call at Icy Strait Point as well as a day of scenic cruising so the issues could be worked on. Speed restrictions from a technical issue onboard were behind the difficulty, though the exact nature of the technical issue was not disclosed. The Royal Caribbean did not notify guests aboard the ship’s July 6 departure of any anticipated itinerary changes or other adjustments to their sailing. The 'Serenade of the Seas' had an ETA in Sitka as of July 8 at 11:30 a.m. It was hoped the ship may be able to sail an adjusted itinerary and guests will be informed as soon as plans are confirmed.
Burgas
BMF Port Burgas EAD is a private-owned port operator of terminal Burgas East 2 and terminal Burgas West, part of the national public port of Burgas, Republic of Bulgaria. On June 5 2019 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria decided to expand the duration of the concession term of both of the terminals from 35 to 46 years and 8 months each. A couple of days ago, we took an opportunity to talk with Mr. Boris Balev, CEO of BMF Port Burgas EAD, who provided us with invaluable insight into the company’s business and development plans and their most important projects on the horizon. Mr. Balev, how much money and in what directions are your investments in the development of BMF Port Burgas since 2012? The investments that will be realized for the 2021 amount to nearly 8 million euros. With them, the total amount of investments since 2012 is approximately 158 million euros. I dare say that with these funds we have completely transformed the two terminals of the Port of Burgas since they were given to us for management and operation. We have talked many times about the facilities we have built and modernized in the port in the past, so I will focus on what is new for this year. We have put into operation a new installation for discharging oil bitumen from ships to railway cars and tank trucks. We strive not only to constantly increase the number of available equipment, but also to modernize it to such with modern technologies for energy efficiency. We are constantly working towards expanding and modernizing the storage areas in the terminals. The project for expansion of our silo complex is going well so far. This year we built 2 more silos, 5,100 m3 each. The construction of another 2 is forthcoming. The total capacity of the complex after the completion of the construction activities will be 119,000 m3. The implementation of this project allowed us to mark a number of strong months in the processing of cereals this year. Interview in English: https://maritime1.com/65710/

THANH HUNG 06
The dismantling of the 'Thanh Hung 06', which had run aground on Feb 26, 2023, en route from Nhon Trach (Dong Nai Province) to Cam Ranh Port (Khanh Hoa Province) after a rudder failure in the waters off Phuoc Dinh Commune, Khanh Hoa Province, has commenced as of July 7, 2025. The ship had become a popular spot for travel enthusiasts in recent times, but due to the ship's long-term deterioration, local authorities have posted warning signs, prohibiting residents and tourists from approaching the vessel, which had been severely damaged. On April 14, 2025, the Civil Judgment Enforcement Office of Thuan Nam District (formerly Ninh Thuan Province) issued a decision to hand the ship over to the auction winner for dismantling and removal. Since mid-June 2025, the remaining fuel was removed to prevent pollution of the marine environment. The ship's dismantling and salvage will be carried out in stages, ensuring safety and without environmental impact.
